On the OK magazine, they have a very long homepage containing all the top stories to potentially draw in the audience so that they spend a long time on the website.
From ads on the OK website, it could be suggested that this magazine has a more older like middle aged target audience as the add is of a watch advertising it as a gift. This type of ad implies that the magazine has a target audience as teens and young adults wouldn’t necessarily be interested in buying a watch.
This is also shown by their tabs. One of the tabs on their homepage is ‘royal’ providing news about the royal family which caters to an older audience as its typically known that the younger people in the UK don’t care as much about the royal family compared to older people
On the Cosmopolitan, the ad on their homepage are to do with beauty suggesting that their magazines are targeted at teens and young adults with an interest in fashion.
The Cosmopolitan also has a long homepage to increase time spent and interest their target audience to the point where they subscribe. So by them having these beauty ads on their homepage, it will appeal to their target audience which leads to them having people willing to pay for subscriptions.
The idea of them having a young adult, beauty interested audience is further conveyed as their tabs consist of beauty, love and style.
Both digital magazines have ads on their homepage and don’t exactly have covers. The advertisements on both of the magazine’s homepage are quite big as that's how they make their money from these websites.
Along with this, they both have a search bar, and different sections to make it easier for the user to navigate around the website and find what they’re interested in.
Both magazines have different tabs that cater to what their target audience is as Cosmopolitan have a teenage to young adult female audience that are interested in beauty and so have tabs such as love, style and beauty.
From this task, I have understood how different online magazines cater towards their target audience and some of the methods they use to do so.
