From this I have learned that magazine companies use the cover of their magazine to entice, identify and engage with their target audience. In this case, these fashion magazines engage with their target audience by using words associated with fashion such as beauty, bags and shoes.

Magazine containing Hailee Steinfield:

  • Fashion magazine with a target audience of 16 to 24

  • Fashion magazine as it uses words such as shopping, eye shadow and crop tops

  • Sell line saying 'Where beauty innovations really starts' to appeal to people interested in fashion and beauty (her target audience)

  • Anchorage text 'Hollywood's most wanted newcomer' which conveys her as desirable and someone to be like to also draw her target audience in.  

  • 'The Trend Issue' targets a younger audience as they'll be intruiged about things that are trending.

  • Her colour scheme is a white background, bold pink masthead.

  • Sell lines also say 'Lasers, Lipo and more' suggesting that the magazine is also aimed at an older audience as it is suggesting or at least talking about fat reduction.

Magazine containing Katy Perry:

  • Fashion magazine which you can tell as it says 'dresses, shoes and bags' to draw her target audience in

  • Her target audience would be Katy Perry fans and again 16 to 14. 

  • Colour scheme of white masthead and pink background.

  • Uses direct address to potentially connect with her target audience

  • Sell/cover line saying '600+ pages of the best' further lures in the audience.

  • Has her name Katy Perry on the magazine as shes well known which once again lures the reader in.

  • Sell lines also says 'The real secret to better sex' suggesting that the magazine is targeting an older audience as you wouldn't talk about sex in a magazine specifically targeted at teens.
