Zooey Deschanel Cosmopolitan cover and double page spread:
In films Zooey normally plays the geeky, smart character however on the cover they have tried to portray her in a new light by using the low cut shirt and saying the anchorage text 'Sexy as Hell'. Conveying her in this manner could suggest that this magazine is aimed at males.
In the double page spread, it may be that her target audience is in fact female. This is because there is a red subheading saying 'Beauty tips'. The fact that is red further suggests that its aimed as females as the use of red makes it stand out from the rest.
In correlation to Blumer and Katz, there could be a sense of personal identity as there is an image of Zooey taking up the majority of the cover. As a result, people may want to pick up this magazine because people may aspire to be like her or are simply attracted to her. There is also surveillance as the sell lines say 'Get beach body ready' which gives advice and guidance.
Rita Ora music magazine cover and double page spread:
Rita Ora is a British singer and songwriter. From the cover, the magazine's target audience might be her fans and possibly younger teenagers. This is because in the sell lines it has 'How to look like Gigi Hadid' in red. Gigi Hadid is an American model so giving a tutorial on how to look like a model would be more appealing for a younger audience and it would be more likely to entice them as they'd see that shes a model. The use of red also makes the sell line stand out.
The suggestion that it may be aimed at a teenage audience is further shown in the sell lines as it says 'The fairy princess hair of your dreams' which if hearing that you'd associate with a younger audience as it links to a fantasy world. This links to Blumer and Katz theory with diversion as people may pick up her magazine to escape to a fantasia world/ escape from the real world.
On the double page spread it has a big image of Rita Ora with her name in bold text, further suggesting that it is aimed at her fans as it has her name in bold and red along with an image of her.
In terms of Katz and Blumer, there is also personal identity as people would want to pick up the magazine as they may be a fan of Rita Ora or want to be like her. Again, it could that people are attracted to her.
From this task I have learnt that all genres of magazine use sell lines, anchorage text, colours and images to identify and lure their target audience.
